5/24 to 5/24

Hello,

Next week Wednesday, May 30th, is our Community Field Trip.  Thank you to all who volunteered to join us!
For those of you who aren’t able to join us all day, we will be eating lunch at 12:00 at Horseshoe Park.
If you have some time, feel free to stop down and join us! We know that this is a later lunch than usual
for first graders but we will be eating several snacks on our stop at the Piggly Wiggly in the morning.
We are excited to learn more about our community and celebrate a fun year in first grade!

Important Dates:
May 22nd: Family Night
May 25th and 28th: No School
May 30th: 1st Grade Community Walking Field Trip
June 4th: Wear bright colors and sunglasses
June 5th: Dress Active
June 5th: Field Day
June 6th: BE you! Wear whatever makes you, YOU! :)
June 6th: Last Day/Early Release
Reading: In reading this week we are continuing to talk about becoming a lifelong reader.
This week we will talk about recommending books that you love, finding lifelong reading
partners, and how they could create their own book clubs!

Writing: This week in writing the students are taking over and teaching a lesson to the
class! Some students are teaching how to write pop out words, how to write how-tos, and
more! They have made anchor charts and have their supplies collected. They are ready to
teach and show what they know as an expert in their genres.

Math: We are taking our test on time, shapes, and measurement.  We will also be reviewing the
past units and getting ready to take our end of the school year math assessment.

Social Studies: We have begun our community unit.  This week we will begin our centers.
They include building a community, drawing maps, learning about community helpers, and
researching on the iPads.

Let me know if you have any questions!
