December 4th to December 8th

Hello,

Reminder that Wednesday afternoon from 1-2 is the time that we invited family members in to be interviewed for the end of our social studies unit.  There are a few students who are not able to have somebody join them and I want them to be able to use that time on Wednesday to work on their own family poster.  It would be helpful if you could spend some time tomorrow night filling out the survey questions so they can use this on their posters.  Thank you for your help!

Looking at the forecast...winter might finally be making its appearance.  Please check that your first grader is coming to school with hats, mittens/gloves, and a warm enough jacket.  Once the snow starts flying remember boots and snowpants!  We have two 20 minute recesses a day and we want to make sure students stay warm! Thank you for your help!

Here are pictures from the field trip!

Reading: In reading this week we are practicing how to read aloud like an expert! We are marking interesting pages to share and jotting notes on what we learned in new sections or on new pages. We are going to practice reading with feeling. If the author shared an interesting fact, we want our voices to match! You can practice changes your voices in the books that we send home!

Writing:  We are excited to show you our progress in our Non-Fiction books at Thursday nights family night.  This week we are working on adding more details to our chapters.  We are adding in different kinds of writing such as how tos and small moment stories.  We will also work on adding introductions and conclusions.
Word Study: This week we are coming to an end to Unit 4. In Unit 4 we have been learning about bonus letters and glued sounds. Students were also introduced to a few new “trick” words or sight words. Words like: they, I, was, one, you, and your. We will start Unit 5 next week.

Math:  This week in math we are finishing with Unit 3, addition and subtraction strategies. We will have the test later this week to see what strategies students have been using!

Content:  We are working on our questions that we want to ask our family members on Wednesday.  We are hoping to learn more about our families and how our families have changed over time.

Let me know if you have any questions.
