Happy KAT Week!  Please continue to practice the questions at home.
Friday morning students will be asked to answer them. There will be prizes
for the classroom with the most answers correct!

Also, do not forget about field trip forms for the field trip to the PAC next week!

Lastly, we will be collecting boxes this week to make book boxes for our writing books.
I have a few but any that you can donate would be great!
Boxes that are small like: cereal boxes, granola boxes, cracker boxes, etc.
If you could have them to school by Friday that would be great!

The knowledge-a-thon is on Friday, April 13! That means the week of there will be dress up days!
Student council came up with days that spelled out KAT!
Monday, April 9= K- "Kozy" day- wear PJs or comfy clothes
(there is no school Tuesday)
Wednesday, April 11= A- "Answer" - dress like an answer to a kat question
Thursday, April 12= T- "Teacher" -dress like a teacher
Friday, April 13= Dress like your grades assigned Olympic color
(the theme is Olympics so student council assigned a color of the
Olympic rings per grade level. We needed one extra color so 4K can be purple for NDLC!)

Below are the colors of the grades based on the rings
  1. Blue- 4th grade
  2. Black- 2nd grade
  3. Red- kindergarten
  4. Yellow- 1st grade
  5. Green- 3rd grade
  6. Purple- 4k

Reading: In reading this week we will be finishing up our Unit 4, meeting new characters
and learning lessons. To start this week we grouped together books by the
lessons they taught. We were comparing books and organizing them. We will
also learn about how readers share their opinions about books and plan out a book
introduction. We will introduce the book to the other first grade class on Friday as a celebration!

Writing: In writing this week we are getting ready to publish our series!
We have been writing fiction books with our characters and on Friday we
are going to put all of our character books together into book boxes. We
will need a cereal box for each student by Friday, so if you could send
one in this week, that would be great!

Word Study:  In word study this week we are working in Unit 9.
We are learning about closed syllables, where a vowel is followed by one or
more consonants. We will also be continuing to work with vowel teams,
ai, ay, ee, ea, ey, oi, and oy.

Math: In math this week we are continuing with our new unit.
We have been exploring methods or strategies to solve 2-Digit addition
problems. For example 23+45. Students have been using their
knowledge of place value to help them solve. We will also be working
on what happens when you add the ones place and it creates a new
group of 10.

Science: Like cars on a road, boats on a bay use color and sound to find their way around.
This week students will explore their own skills of watching and listening,
and practice some of the words of the sounds they hear every day.

Let me know if you have any questions!
