Hello,
A few important papers are going home this week! Yesterday we sent home a blue field trip permission slip for the PAC. Today, you will recieve a paper for the family night.
Wow, what crazy weather! Spring in Wisconsin usually involves a few snow storms. Thank you for continuing to send snowpants and boots, let's hope this was the last snow storm of the season!

The knowledge-a-thon is on Friday, April 13! That means the week of there will be dress up days! Student council came up with days that spelled out KAT!
Monday, April 9= K- "Kozy" day- wear PJs or comfy clothes
(there is no school Tuesday)
Wednesday, April 11= A- "Answer" - dress like an answer to a kat question
Thursday, April 12= T- "Teacher" -dress like a teacher
Friday, April 13= Dress like your grade's assigned Olympic color (the theme is Olympics so student council assigned a color of the Olympic rings per grade level. We needed one extra color so 4K can be purple for NDLC!)
Below are the colors of the grades based on the rings
- Blue- 4th grade
- Black- 2nd grade
- Red- kindergarten
- Yellow- 1st grade
- Green- 3rd grade
- Purple- 4k
Reading: In reading this week we are talking about lessons in our books. We will work on noticing the lessons in our books by paying attention to what the character learns when the problem gets solved. We will think about life lessons even before we start a book and use those thoughts to read differently, thinking right from the start what the book might teach us. At the end of the week we will compare and contrast books by asking, “ What’s the same? What’s different?”
Writing: In writing we are making some connections between the books that we are reading and the ones that we are writing. Tomorrow we will ask ourselves the question, “Can my character learn a lesson in the book I’m writing?” We will also look at the first grade writing checklist and make sure that we are including all parts of a narrative piece of writing. I will be encouraging students to move onto new books about their characters so they can begin to collect a series of adventures.
Word Study: This week we will finish assessing our Unit 8 and start Unit 9. In unit 9 we will be learnign about long vowel sounds and how vowel combinations can make the long vowel sound.
Math: This week in math we are reviewing comparison bars and taking our test. We will begin our new unit towards the end of the week that will begin 2 digit addition. We will explore many different methods to solve them.
Science: This week, students will learn how patterns of light can be used to communicate complex messages. Students will create their own codes, using different colors and patterns of light, to send secret instructions to a partner across the room.
You could also try this at home!Students have become familiar with the idea that light can be used to send messages, as long as the receiver knows what the code means!
