2/5 to 2/9

Hello,

Enrollment for the 2018-2019 school year is underway and we have a few spots available in Kindergarten! We find that word of mouth is the best way to market our school.

If you have friends or family with upcoming Kindergarten-aged students, please share what you love about our school! We will be having an open house to see Kindergarten in action on Thursday, February 8th from 8:15-9:00 or 2:15-3:00. Feel free to invite any families that have expressed interest in our school.

As always, families can also call Mrs. Frischmann at 766-6116 to set up individual tours.

Here is the updated blog for this week. Here is the mystery reader schedule, March and April are pretty empty so if any dates work for you or a family member, let me know! You do need to have a background check on file so let me know if you would like a copy.

Tomorrow book orders will be sent home for the month of February. Orders will be due Feb. 28th.

Upcoming Events:
February 12th: 100th Day of School!
February 14th: Valentine’s Day, wear red or pink
February 16th: Funky Friday
February 22nd/23rd: No School
February 27th: Family Night: Music and Munchies
February 28th: Book Orders Due

Reading: This week we are continuing with our new unit Readers Have Big Jobs to Do. This week we are going to be adding new tools to read hard words. We will be thinking about the story to solve the words, think about what words would fit, slow down to break down long words, and learn to use words they know to solve words they don’t know.

Writing: This week in writing we are continuing to write book reviews! Students also have watched a few book reviews at the end of Reading Rainbow. On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday they are going to record their own book reviews or recommendations and we will watch each others! We will also start our next unit on Friday which is poetry!

Word Study: This week we will be starting Unit 7. In this unit we learn a lot of new ‘glued’ sounds: /ang/, /ing/, /ong/, /ung/, /ank/, /ink/, /onk/, and /unk/. The packet with practice sheets and more information about the unit will come home tomorrow.

Math: This week in math we are taking the Unit 4 assessment at the start of the week. We will be starting Unit 5 on Wednesday. In Unit 5 students will be learning more about place value. At the start of the unit we will be taking a closer look at teen numbers.

Content: This week in science we are finishing up learning about the seasons. We are answering our question of why do we have seasons. We will also end the week talking about the moon and answering questions we have about it!

Let me know if you have any questions.
