Specials Schedule:

Upcoming Dates:

March 5th: Culver’s Night for PSC 5-8
March 9th: Half Day
March 16th: Wear Green

Reading: This week in reading we are continuing to learn how readers have big jobs to do! We are learning strategies to understand the stories we are reading by visualizing, keeping track of who’s talking, and understanding words. We will also learn that if we get confused or cannot remember our story, we need to go back reread to understand our story. When your child is reading at home a quick way to make sure they are understanding their book is to ask for a retell. A retell is where the student will tell you the characters in the story and some things that happened in the beginning, middle, and end of the story!

Writing: We are working in a poem unit. We are using everything we learned from our poetry centers to start writing our poems! Here are a few pictures of students working on visualization and finding meaning in a poem through painting:

Word Study: This week we are continuing with our new glued sounds. We are practicing these by using our letter boards, white boards, and tapping them out!

Math: This week we are going to continue our work of story problems that have a missing partner or missing total. We are learning how to mark up the question by looking for what is important in the story. We are also going to be talking about having 3 addends! What do we do if a story has three numbers that need to be added together?

Content: This week we will begin our short mini-unit on American Symbols.  We will spend time learning about the Flag, White House, Liberty Bell, and Statue of Liberty this week.

Let me know if you have any questions.
