2/12 to 2/16

Hello,

February 14th Lunch Change: Cheese pizza to pepperoni and BBQ pork to the sunbutter sandwich.

This week dollar book clubs were sent home: This is a great book to talk about character traits and problems in the story. Also it is great to have students use academic language! For example have them say “The problem in the story is _____.” or “This character is _____” or “Some traits of Pig are ______.”

**Dollar book club are the one dollar books that scholastic offers each month. Some students paid 8 dollars at the start of the year and have been getting a book each month. This is February’s book! If you would like your child to have the dollar book you can order it with Scholastic either through the paper copies that are sent home each month or online!**

This week is a very busy week! We had the 100th day of school today:

On Wednesday we will have our Valentine party! So far I have these treats covered:

-Sausage and cheese
-Crackers

Let me know if you can bring something!

Reading: This week we are adding more tools to our toolbox to help us solve some harder words we are coming across in our books! This is a very busy and important time of the year for your child’s reading. Thank you for continuing to work with them on their reading at home!

Writing: This week in writing we will be doing a few activities during that time. Today for the 100th day we made 100th Day books. Tomorrow we will have a guest that is teaching us about dental hygiene and on Wednesday we are meeting with our third grade buddies to do a Valentine activity! On Thursday we will start our next writing unit which is poetry! We will start exploring the world of poetry and notice features of poetry.

Word Study: We are continuing with unit 7. In this unit we learn a lot of new ‘glued’ sounds: /ang/, /ing/, /ong/, /ung/, /ank/, /ink/, /onk/, and /unk/.

Math: This week in math we started with some 100 day math activities!! For the rest of the week we are continuing with Unit 5. We are learning about subtraction in the teens and unknown partners with teen equations. Homework will be sent home on Wednesday.

Content: This week in science/social studies we are going to start the week with some close readings of some books about Canada. Why? Each classroom chose a country to keep track of during the Olympics. We chose Canada and will be tracking their medals outside our classroom door! We wanted to learn a little bit more about our country so we are doing that through articles and books! For the remainder of the week we are going to end our science unit with studying the moon!

Let me know if you have any questions.
