Reading: This week we will be learning strategies to help us with the new vocabulary that we learn in our non fiction books.  We will learn that keywords help us to think and talk about the information in our books.  Ask your first grader what they are learning in their non-fiction books.  Encourage them to use the important, “fancy” words that the book uses to teach them about the topic.

Writing:  This week we will continue writing nonfiction books or all about books! We will be organizing our nonfiction stories by creating a table of contents, creating chapter titles, and creating an introduction and conclusion. We will also elaborate in our story by adding comparisons and working on teaching with pictures and words.
Word Study: This week we are reviewing glued sounds like all.

Math:  In math we are continuing to work on addition and subtraction strategies. Students have been working hard at solving story problems that have unknown partners. They are trying different strategies like counting on, pictures, equations, and known partners to help them solve. Math homework will be sent home on Wednesday so you can see what we have been working on!

Content:  This week we will be looking at what we produced in each center as a class! We will be watching interviews with people that teach about families long ago and what it was like back then. We are preparing ourselves to interview a grandparent for our social studies celebration next week! Please return those blue slips by Friday so we know who they will be interviewing.

Let me know if you have any questions.
