Reading:
In reading this week we are finishing up our Good Reading Habits unit.  We will set new goals and celebrate our best habits.  We will begin our new Word Detective unit towards the end of the week. This unit will focus on word solving strategies.  We have finished up all of our literacy assessments and we have begun meeting with students in small groups.  The books that students are bringing home should be just right books and/or books that they have received that day from me.

Writing:  This week in writing we will continue writing our narrative small moment stories. We will be focusing in on an author’s craft. Studying what an author does in their story that makes it special and how we can try that in our own writing! We will also learn spelling strategies to use in our writing and learn how to edit our writing.

Word Study: In Unit 2 we will teach/review how to blend and read three-sound short vowel words as well as how to segment and spell them. We will learn about sentence structure with capital letters at the beginning of a sentence and periods at the end. We will also introduce tick words (sight words) that students will memorize. When we have a new trick word we will write them in our agenda so you can see the word we are introducing this week.

Math: This week in math we are doing a bit more review with partners of numbers up to 10.  We will begin Unit 2 on Wednesday.  In unit 2, students will begin to recognize addition and subtraction problem types and write equations to represent addition and subtraction situations.  We will also work on relating addition and subtraction within 10.

Content:  This week we will continue to check in on our plants.  We have some tall bean stalks already!  We will also be adding some snails and guppies to our aquariums.

As always if you have any questions, let me know!
