Week of 9/18 to 9/21

Hello!

Please remember to send back the purple writing folder if you haven’t done so yet.

In the upcoming weeks be on the lookout for a white bag. We are going to be creating All About Me Bags . Students can bring in 4 items to share that fit in their bag. I will send home an information sheet attached to it with a date that will be your child's sharing date. I have sent a few home already and if you have not received one then I am waiting to send it home until it gets closer to the day your child shares! Let me know if you have any questions.

I have also created a schedule to show you what specials we have on each day. This is the set schedule, days will not change due to snow days. Let me know if you have any questions, here is the link: Specials Schedule

Also this week is safety week, we will be learning and practicing routines for fire drills, tornado drills, and intruder drills. Let me know if you have any questions.

Reading: This week for reading we will continue to learn about good habits that readers have and start to learn some strategies that readers use to solve unknown words. We will learn how rereading can help us see more in a story, how taking a sneak peek of a story before we read might help us with unknown words, and how readers take a look at all the parts of an unknown word. Another lesson we will have this week is how we need to drop bad habits in our reading like freezing at an unknown word, asking what the word is without trying to solve it, or mumbling through a word. We will drop our bad habits and pick up a good habit like checking the picture, looking at parts of the words, and double checking that the word makes sense!

Writing:  This week in writing we will continue writing narrative small moment stories. We will create writing partnerships within the classroom and help each other grow as writers by giving a compliment and something they could add. We will also bring our characters to life by giving them actions, words to say, and by giving them thoughts and feeling in both our pictures and words.

Word Study: In the first unit of word study we will be reviewing the letter names, sounds, and lowercase formations of the letters a-z. We will work on this through oral repetition, using keywords, student notebooks, and dry erase boards.

Math: This week we will continue unit 1: Partners and Number Patterns Through 10.  This week we will work with partners of 7, 8, 9, and 10! We will practice fluency with those partners in our lessons as well as at our math rotations. This week be on the lookout for a parent letter with more information about Unit 1!

Content: This week in science we will be investigating woodland plants and freshwater plants.  We will work on putting together our terrariums and aquariums.  We will also check in on the seeds that we are growing in our classroom.

As always if you have any questions, let me know!
