Hello,

NDLC's Ride to Read

We invite you and your families to join us for our first Ride to Read, family biking event, on Sunday, October 8 from 10-1.  There will be activities for all ages and riding abilities at the event.  Please visit the link for more information and to register!  http://www.kaukauna.k12.wi.us/cms_files/resources/Ride%20to%20Read%20Brochure.pdf

Mystery Readers:
Here is the mystery reader schedule! I was able to give everyone their first or second choice! Let me know if that time slot no longer works for you.

I will still email you prior to your date to remind you and to get 5 facts or “clues” from you so students can start guessing who the mystery reader might be.

If you do not see your name and turned in a mystery reader form, please contact me and let me know! Also, if you did not turn it in but would like to select one of the open dates then please let me know! wittmannt@kaukaunasd.org

Everyone who did sign up, please check your email sometime on Monday. I will send some information regarding the background checks that will need to be conducted before your day.

Rules:
In the first few weeks of school we each made a hope and dream for the school year. We drew a picture of us succeeding at reaching our goal and displayed them in our classroom.

To reach all of our hopes and dreams we came up with 4 rules for our classroom. With the understanding that if we follow our rules it will help everyone reach their hopes and dreams! We each signed that we agree with our rules and will work hard to follow them. In the next few weeks we are going to define our 4 rules and talk about consequences if we do not follow our classroom rules. Let me know if you have any questions!

I have also created a schedule to show you what specials we have on each day: Specials Schedule

Reading: This week for reading we will learn strategies to solve unknown words. We will learn how readers use meaning to solve unknown words, try different vowel sounds to solve a word, and double check that when they think they solved a word that it looks right to their eyes and makes sense to them. We will also learn how readers do not give up on a tough word. They try multiple strategies to solve an unknown word. We will end the week by strengthening our reading partnerships. Partners will learn how to introduce a book to their partner that they want to read together.

Writing:  This week in writing we will continue writing narrative small moment stories, focusing on setting goals for ourselves in our writing. We are going to create a checklist of goals we want to reach in our writing. After we create the checklist we will add student examples that show an example of each goal we set. Then we will pick a goal for ourselves and display our goal in the classroom!

Word Study: This week for word study we will be sending home a packet of how we form each letter and a packet of practice sheets. This is being sent home to show what we have been working on in unit 1 so far! This is not homework. It is only extra practice and to show you what we have been learning in word study. This week we will continue reviewing the letter names, sounds, and lowercase formations of the letters a-z. We will work on this through oral repetition, using keywords, student notebooks, and dry erase boards.

Math: This week we will be finishing up Unit 1 for math. We will practice partners of 10, review the partners for 5-9, and apply this knowledge to real life examples. We will have our assessment for Unit 1 on Thursday.

Content: This week in science we will continue investigating woodland plants and freshwater plants.  We will work on putting together our terrariums and aquariums.  We will also check in on the seeds that we are growing in our classroom.

As always if you have any questions, let me know!
