Reading: In reading this week we are continuing to explore our characters in our new fiction books. We are noticing how characters change throughout the book, working on visualization (picturing the story in your mind), retelling, and looking at the setting in our books.

Writing:  We love writing about our collections. We will be looking at an opinion checklist and learning what first grade writers need to include in their writing to make it convincing.  We will teach students that writers don’t always share the same opinion and that we need to back up opinions with reasons.
Word Study: A unit 6 packet will be coming home tomorrow!

Math: This week in math we are learning about the make a ten strategy. We will notice how it is quicker to make a ten to solve, then to count on. We will also start exploring doubles and how they can help us solve addition problems. We will end the week with the mid-year assessment in math.

Content:  We will be learning more about the sun this week.  We will learn how far the sun is from the earth.  We will also be researching and writing about what we learn from books.

Let me know if you have any questions.
